Wood Dowels

Our standard range of Dowels are imperial in diameter. (i.e. inches) The reason is that in many cases the dowel is inserted into a hole and in most instances imperial drills are more common. We now produce a range of pure metric sizes for export to Europe.

However we can produce any size dowel (subject to certain minimum quantity requirements) Lengths normaly range from 2ft. to 10ft. but we can also cut to exact lengths, if required, imperial or metric. In fact even fractional sizes for specific applications can be supplied if quantities are sufficient and ongoing.

Most dowels over 1 inch. diameter are finger-jointed and laminated. (FJ/L) There are many advantages in FJ/L dowel. It is easier to eliminate defects ,the dowel is more stable , straighter and costs less to produce. Most Australia buyers insist on FJ/L dowels over 1 inch (25mm) diameter. Solid dowels in larger diameters can also be produced but at a slightly higher cost than F.J./ L dowels.

The dowels the company produce fall into two distinct categories.

  • Dowels for the D.I.Y. Market
    • These are packed into standard size bundles – the smaller the dowel the greater the number of pieces in the bundle. When bundles of dowels are packed into Euro-crates for export, they can be packed one diam. per create or several diam. per crate. In the case of mixed diam. in a crate, it is important that a row of one diam. is complete before an other size is packed on top. (see table bdls/row). Every piece of dowel can be individually bar-coded if required at very minimal cost.
